Welcome to The BlackBox Theatre Company

BlackBox is one of the south’s leading small scale, professional, touring theatre companies.  Supported by the Arts Council we endevour to bring exciting, entertaining and innovative theatre to a variety of interesting, and sometimes unusual, local venues.

Due to the current lockdown, we are planning a series of audio recorded shows, which we will air online, starting with The 39 Steps, which we toured with last year.  To allow us to do this and so we can pay our actors we have set up an appeal on Crowdfunder UK, so, if you want to find out more and can lend us your support in these unusual and difficult times please go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/blackbox-appeal and donate whatever you can.

We will be donating 10% of all monies raised to The Minstead Trust, a local charity who support people with learning disabilities throughout Hampshire and once the plays are online we hope to be able to continue to raise funds via voluntary donations from our audiences for the wonderful work that they do for those less fortunate in our local communities.

We’ll keep you posted on our progress but head over to our Facebook page or join us on Instagram or Twitter for more news as we have it

Many thanks x

Following the enormous success of their award winning play, Bully Beef & Whizzbangs in 2018 and their highly acclaimed adaptation of The 39 Steps last year, BlackBox return with Mike Leigh’s iconic 70s comedy, Abigail’s Party.

Beverly and her put upon husband, Laurence, are hosting a drinks party for new neighbours Angela and Tony and mild mannered divorcee, Sue, who’s daughter, Abigail, is having her fifteenth birthday party a few doors down.  As the gin flows and the music plays, our hostess gets louder and louder, small talk soon turns to outrageous flirting, marital discord and anxieties escalte and the thin veneer of middle class respectability begins to peel away.

This classic, suburban comedy, which helped make Alison Steadman a household name, is as relevant and grotesquely funny today as it has always been.  As familiar as a cheese and pineapple hedgehog, Abigail’s Party is an absolute joy and always an audience favourite.

“I urge everyone to go and see one of their shows. You won’t be disappointed”
